Opioids, Dentistry and Addiction: The Dentist’s Role in Treating Pain scheduled for Oct. 21

Ohio Civics Essential will host its second virtual panel titled “Opioids & Policy Reform” on June 10 at noon with three subject matter experts joining together to discuss the opioid crisis and how we may best help those struggling with substance abuse and addiction.

The goal of this session is to challenge our existing attitudes about who addiction affects. Using statistics on the opioid epidemic, along with a poem contributed by a social worker and substance abuse counselor, participants will explore the reach of opioids in Ohio. This session facilitated by Not Far from Me co-editor, Daniel Skinner.

"Not Far from Me" co-editors Berkeley Franz and Dan Skinner will discuss opioids in Ohio and engage attendees in a discussion. The Central Ohio Symphony will begin the conversation with a drum circle.

Using first-person stories from Not Far from Me: Stories of Opioids and Ohio, community conversation events will feature community members facilitating in-depth community discussions to encourage critical, historically-informed dialogue around opioid use, with the aim of reducing stigma.
