16 defendants from Michigan and Ohio sentenced in $250 million health care fraud scheme


COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The United States Justice Department announced Wednesday 16 defendants from Michigan and Ohio, including 12 physicians, were sentenced to prison for a $250 million health care fraud scheme.

The Justice Department said the scheme included the exploitation of patients suffering from addiction and the illegal distribution of over 6.6 million doses of medically unnecessary opioids.
