Cuyahoga County reports near-record 66 drug overdose deaths in May, and number could rise, medical examiner says

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- At least 66 people died in May after overdosing on heroin, fentanyl or cocaine in Cuyahoga County, and that number could rise to an all-time high for a single month once more test results are confirmed, the medical examiner’s office said.

The total falls just short Cuyahoga County’s record high of 67 fatal overdoses from February 2017, the medical examiner’s office said in a news release. The total of 66 will likely increase because the medical examiner’s office is still awaiting test results for six more cases.
