Ohio Restaurant Association embracing second-chance employment amid opioid crisis

Although the opioid crisis cuts across all demographics, geographies and industries, restaurants are feeling the effects particularly hard.

For one, the sheer scale of the industry is tough to manage, as there are 22,000 restaurants and 585,000 workers across the state of Ohio, according to the Ohio Restaurant Association (ORA).

John Barker, the trade group’s CEO, says restaurateurs are thinking critically about the issue. Several ORA members belong to the public-private Ohio Opioid Education Alliance, which is the group behind the “Don’t Live in Denial” advertising campaign.
