Opioid overdose rates increasing among Latino community

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — As Franklin County and the rest of Ohio continue to experience an uptick in the number of drug overdose deaths, one thing is for certain – no community is immune to the illness of addiction. Over the last few decades, Ohio’s Latino population has quietly, yet quickly, increased with Latinos now leading population growth in 87 out of 88 Ohio counties. Franklin County alone is home to 75,000 Latinos, and statewide the Latino population has grown to over 400,000 people.

This demographic shift has been observed with recent increases in opioid misuse and overdoses in the Latino community as well.
